Interview
Two interviews of around 30 minutes. Expect to be handed a problem (often a concrete inequality, a counting argument or a small piece of geometry) and asked to think aloud. Tutors are looking for fluency with proof and willingness to revise an approach.

Insider tips

Things Mathematics applicants commonly miss.

  • 01

STEP preparation IS the application. Strong TMUA scores are necessary but not sufficient - interviews probe STEP-level thinking, and your conditional offer is a STEP grade.

  • 02

Use the Cambridge STEP Support Programme (free, official) and the maths.org problem sets through 2026 for exam-style practice.

  • 03

Further Mathematics A-Level is required wherever it is available; Cambridge will not normally accept applicants from a school that offers Further Maths but didn't take it.
